When the United States and United Kingdom brokered a deal between President Pervez Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto, a National Reconciliation Ordinance was issued, in order to give a blanket cover to all the corruption and murder charges against Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari. The charges range from illegal kickbacks, misuse of power, murder and possession of large amount of money in foreign banks. Cases were also pending against Benazir Bhutto in foreign countries as well including Spain and Switzerland.
These corruption and criminal charges were withdrawn within a few days after the promulgation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance. Asif Ali Zardari is the biggest beneficiary of this widely condemned ordinance.
Now that they have shown their intention of bringing impeachment motion against the President, I am sure that Zardari would have the moral courage to rise and say that he would face the criminal charges against him in courts of law.

Talks have been held between Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif after a deadline given by the latter for restoration of judges. We have been informed once again that the nation would hear good news regarding the judges issue in the near future. We have been hearing about such good news for quite some time now but none has come. It was expected that the new government which claims to be the true representatives of the people will take steps to give some relief to the common people of the country. So far we are seeing that the leaders of the two main parties have been haggling over the reinstatement of judges and th mechanism for their restoration.
Prices of essential items are increasing on day to day basis and the government has failed miserably to check it. When the oil prices increased in the international market, the government was quick to increase the prices and now that the prices have plummeted in the international market, from 147 dollar per barrel to 118 dollar per barrel, the benefit has not been passed on to the consumers. The resulting change in the profit of oil marketing companies and dealers from a change in the pricing mechanism has also not been passed on to the consumers. Every now and then we are being asked to swallow the bitter pill in the larger interest of the nation. I have been hearing such statements from our government since my childhood and I am sure that nothing is going to change.
The people will continue to suffer so long as they do not take their destiny in their own hands.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ruled out use of article 58 (2) b against his government. May it be so that the present government complete its term! But the way the state affairs are being handled in his time a bolt from the blue will not be unexpected or unlikely.
To avoid this sword of Damocles the safe way will be to do some real jobs other than transfers, postings and raising prices.

Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan, President Supreme Court Bar Association has said that judges are united. There is no doubt about it and they will express their unity by resuming their responsibilities at the call of Federal Law Minister, Farooq H. Naik.
How can they become PCO judges if they take oath under the constitution of Pakistan? Mr. Ahsan should ponder well on this situation.

Obama at height of his spirit was insistent on sending US troops into Pakistani border but now he has softened his attitude and is showing his willingness to work with the Pakistani government and help in rooting out terrorist camps. It is a positive out look to respect international boundary of a sovereign state. A super power representative must be very balanced in his speech and action.
